Coming into St. Lawrence, I knew I wanted to study economics given my entrepreneurial spirit and interest in business.  While at St. Lawrence, I’ve realized just how applicable economics is to decisions in our lives, and how an economic background allows one to truly understand the economic impacts of current events.  Through the mathematical side of economics, I have learned how to analyze data and generate forecasts, as well as develop econometric models to support economic theory.

One of my greatest experiences while at St. Lawrence has been studying abroad in London, England during the spring semester of my Sophomore year.  The study abroad program in London enabled me to experience British culture first hand through my home-stay family, and learn a great deal about the economic developments in the European Union. While abroad, I participated in a month-long internship with Barclays Capital, where I learned the roles of traders within the Money Markets Division, and enhanced my knowledge of and interest in finance.  I was able to further develop my finance skills during the summer of 2009, when I interned with Lockheed Martin Corp. in Liverpool, NY.  This academic year, I traveled to New York City through the St. Lawrence Economic Department on two separate occasions.  The first was to participate in a two-day finance workshop coordinated my SLU alum John Angelo.  On the second trip, my classmates and I presented a monetary policy action report for the 2009 Fed Challenge Competition.  Additionally, as co-author on an econometrics paper, I had the opportunity to present at the Eastern Economics Association Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA.  I have concluded my economics degree with the presentation of my honors thesis, in which I analyze economic theory behind the consumption decisions of U.S. farm households.
