She decided to become a Geology major her senior year of high school after working on a project about Earth's electromagnetic field. Since coming to St. Lawrence, she has taken as many Geology courses as possible, and quickly developed an interest in Sedimentary and Carbonate Sedimentary Geology. This past summer, Bonnie was granted a SLU Fellowship to study the relationship between calcareous green algae and carbonate sediments in tropical lagoons from San Salvador, Bahamas. Her research will be presented at the national GSA conference. She also traveled to Croatia with Dr. Husinec and fellow student Amelia Oates to begin work on a senior thesis. She is planning to continue her Geology studies in graduate school, potentially completing a Ph.D, so that she can apply to the NASA Astronaut Program. Her ultimate goal is to go to Mars.
