Host Family Connections Program

The Host Family Connections Program is a cooperative, non-residential, endeavor between International Student Services and the local community which connects international students with local families who will support their experience here as well as enjoy the opportunity for cultural exchange.

Information for International Students

Host families are a great way to share your culture with families in the local community and a way to find a family away from home while at St. Lawrence. Families will invite students to visit their homes and to explore the local area and students can invite families to campus activities. Our hope is that relationships will grow and will last throughout your time at St. Lawrence. We will assign a student/family match, share your contact information, and participants will initiate contact and invitations to get together. We ask families to initiate at least two activities per semester.

New students as well as those from previous class years that have not yet been assigned a host family are welcome to apply to the Host Family Connections Program. To apply please complete the Student Application Form by July 30.  If you are a new student, you will be notified and receive information about your family when you arrive on campus. Your first opportunity to meet your host family will take place during International Student Orientation, August. If you are a continuing student, you will receive information about your host family in late September and your first opportunity to meet your host family will be during Family Weekend.

Information for Families

Host families come in all shapes and sizes! We encourage participation regardless of life stage and family type: young couples, families with or without children, older couples, single people, etc.  This is a non-residential program. We assign a student/family match, share your contact information, and participants will initiate contact and invitations to get together. Families invite students to visit their homes and to explore the local area and students invite families to campus activities. Our hope is that relationships will grow and will last throughout the student's stay at St. Lawrence. We ask families to initiate at least two activities per semester with your student, and hope you will contact each other monthly. While in-person contact is preferred, phone and email are also great ways to stay linked.
