Six outstanding St. Lawrence students have been selected as Summer Admissions Interns for 2009, with multiple opportunities to take part in the recruitment process for future students.

The interns were chosen from a competitive field of candidates who completed an extensive application process, with the finalists selected for multi-stage interviews. Each finalist prepared a brief presentation and interviewed with a team of senior students, a group of admissions counselors and the Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Terry Cowdrey. Summer Admissions Interns for 2009 are Abid Amiri '11 (Mahmood Hotaki High School), of Kabul, Afghanistan, an economics and global studies major with a minor in mathematics; Jordyn Buzza '11 (John McCrae Central School), of Ottawa, Canada, a multifield major; Beth Dixon '10 (Gouverneur High School), of Gouverneur, New York, a performance and communication arts major; Lyndsay LaBarge '10 (Tupper Lake Senior High School), of Tupper Lake, New York, a biology major with a minor in education; Lauren Reed '11 (Cortland High School), of Cortland, New York, a psychology major; and Alex Showerman '10 (Thetford Academy), of Grantham, New Hampshire, a government and economics major.

Interns' responsibilities include leading campus tours, making personal contacts with prospective students and facilitating online chats. The internship will also include meetings with the University's Senior Staff and undertaking projects such as analyzing campus visit statistics, providing feedback on the admissions and financial aid Web site, developing new recruitment initiatives and planning and implementing training of student Admissions Ambassadors for the fall semester. The internship will incorporate a series of workshops on a variety of topics that have an impact upon the admissions, recruitment and selection processes, including the admissions calendar, territory management, travel planning, publications and marketing, interviews and application review.
