Amy Hauber

Associate Professor of Art and Art History Amy Hauber will participate in a week-long seminar called Remix Culture, taking place at the Amsterdam School of Art in July. The seminar marks the beginning of a collaboration and research project with the school's chief researcher, Emiel Heijnen, and 23 other international artists and media art educators selected to participate.

Remix Culture "connects recent theoretical, aesthetic and technical insights with the professional practices of contemporary art and media educators. It challenges participants to develop new teaching materials during the course. These materials grow out of the theory and examples of good practice that are presented and discussed. The summer course fosters the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the various international communities of practice that the participants represent."

The larger project led by Heijen is titled "Participatory hybrid media cultures as fuel for interdisciplinary art education." He states, "The rise of modern media technologies leads to a comparable, interdisciplinary approach to creative production by artists and designers on the one hand, and young people on the other. This approach is referred to as remixing: media contents, techniques, knowledge sharing, means of expression and representation are constantly blended, fueled by information technology. The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the possibilities and impossibilities, in terms of content and didactics, of the media remix for interdisciplinary art education. A theory of Authentic Art Education Remix will be defined by the study of 'remixing' youngsters and contemporary artists, and then implemented and assessed in the practice of contemporary teachers in media education."
