Professor of Physics Daniel Koon's overview of the history and present state of Costa Rican science fiction was mentioned in an article in November 15, 2009's La Nación newspaper, published in San José, Costa Rica. Koon will teach a First-Year Seminar, Global Science Fiction, in spring 2010 focusing on science fiction in translation; the course includes some of his own translations.
Koon spent the 2000-2001 year at CICIMA, the Center for Research and Engineering of Materials, at the University of Costa Rica. Koon's overview was translated into Spanish last year for the Cuban e-zine Qubit.
The article in La Nación states (translated): "It is only very recently that various scholars of [this] literature, including Juan Carlos Toledano, Rachel Haywood and Yolanda Molina Gavilán, among others, have begun to identify, classify and analyze those materials. For Costa Rica, a work of this type has been started by the American physicist, Daniel W. Koon."
