St. Lawrence University's chapter of the national political science and government honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha, has been awarded two grants by the organization's national office.

Chapter President Evan Smith '08, Lancaster, PA, worked with chapter members on the award-winning proposals; it is unusual for a chapter to be awarded two grants at the same time. One grant will support the chapter's annual banquet in the spring, including the funding for a comptition for the best paper written for a government course. The award will be given at the banquet and announced publicly at Moving-Up Day ceremonies. The second activity grant will fund a film series, focusing on the portrayal of the American presidency in film.

St. Lawrence University's chapter, Alpha Psi, is the second-oldest in New York State; it began in 1949. Pi Sigma Alpha is the only honor society for college students of political science and government in the United States. There are over 658 chapters of Pi Sigma Alpha located on college and university campuses in every state of the United States, and in Guam.
