Rev. Kathleen Buckley
University Chaplain Reverend Kathleen Buckley will present a paper titled "Mentoring Students As They Build Their Own Beliefs" at the 2012 Global Conference of Chaplains in Higher Education at Yale University June 25 through 29.

Her presentation outlines the Build Your Own Beliefs program at St. Lawrence, which assists students in developing both the language and skills necessary to construct their own belief system. In the program, Buckley states, "we invite students to examine themes related to spiritual/religious literacy in an atmosphere of radical hospitality. Sitting in bean-bag chairs and reflecting on a different theme each week, students are invited to ask big questions as they explore what they believe. The
90-minute weekly gathering allows students to carve out time in their busy schedule to integrate who they are, with what they are learning, and what they believe. We now have four levels of 'BYOB.' The presentation will focus on the research that drove the creation of the program, an outline of all four levels, and the core values underlying the program."

The conference is held every four years and the theme this year is "Mosaics in Motion: Spiritual Leadership in a Multifaith World," exploring values of religious literacy, radical hospitality, service with thoughtful reflection and creating and sharing sacred space.
