A poster presentation and an upcoming journal article are outcomes of a recent sabbatical by Professor of Physics Daniel W. Koon.
Koon recently presented a poster, "Simultaneous resistive and Hall measurements of hydriding and dehydriding MgPd bilayers," at MH2008, the International Symposium on Metal-hydrogen systems, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The work was coauthored with colleagues from the Department of Materials Physics of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Koon's hosts for his 2007-2008 sabbatical.
An article, "Polynomial-interpolation algorithm for van der Pauw Hall measurement in a metal hydride film," also authored by Koon and the UAM group, has been accepted for publication in the journal Measurement Science and Technology. Koon's year in Madrid was a combination of a regular sabbatical and a First-Year Program sabbatical, during which he applied electrical measurement tools to studying hydrogen storage in solids, an area of interest internationally for its advantages over both compressed hydrogen gas storage and cryogenic liquid hydrogen storage in future hydrogen-powered vehicles.
