Martin Papp '08, from the TV show "SuperBoy"
Martin Papp '08 is the first and only American to make it to the finals round of the Chinese version of "American Idol," called "SuperBoy." Papp, originally of Colorado Springs, is an English teacher in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. He spent a semester studying in China while a student at St. Lawrence.
According to producers Hunan TV, "SuperBoy" is the largest singing talent competition in the world, based out of Changsha, China. More than 170,000 contestants auditioned, not only in China, but also in North America, Australia and Malaysia. After auditioning in Nanchang, Papp moved into the Top 300, then Top 60 to the Top 30 level. If he makes it into the Top 20, he will be offered a music contract from the show's main partner Tian Yu, a major record label in China.
Papp majored in government at St. Lawrence and was a member of the men's squash team.
