St. Lawrence University swept the undergraduate category at the New York Conference on Asian Studies (NYCAS) for the 2008 Marleigh Grayer Ryan Writing Prizes, with Kevin Keepper '08 winning first prize, and Matthew Satterley '08 receiving honorable mention.

Satterley's paper was titled "The United States and China: An Ambiguous Relationship."

According to the program for the conference, which took place in September, "NYCAS encourages the development of the skills of scholarly writing by awarding annual prizes for excellent student papers dealing with Asia. Two such prizes are awarded each year, one to an undergraduate student and one to a graduate student. Runners-up are named in each category."

Satterley, of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., earned his degree in government and was a member of the men's tennis team.
