Retired journalist John S. McClenahen '63 is the author of
Eight Mile: Selected Poems, published by iUniverse.
McClenahen covered economics for Industry Week and IndustryWeek.com and edited the magazine's Bottom Line and Strategic Siting sections. McClenahen also covered global management strategies and major public policy issues. McClenahen retired from IndustryWeek in 2006. He earned his St. Lawrence degree in English and was elected to the leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa and academic honor societies in English and government. He also has a master's degree in English from Case Western Reserve University and a master's degree in liberal studies from Georgetown University. In 1987, he was the first American journalist to be selected for a Press Fellowship at the University of Cambridge's Wolfson College, where he studied international economics and management. He was a fellow at the 1996 Institute on Economics for Journalists and in 2000 was a participant in the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists.
This is his first book of poems, "with subjects ranging from the Cascades to Moscow, the Musée d'Orsay, imagination, moral certainty, and Jerry Ford's funeral."
