Eight students participated in the Washington Model Organization of American States (WMOAS) held in April, 2012. The group's advisor, Assistant Professor of Government Shelley McConnell, has been asked to join the board of directors of the organization that runs the program, the Institute for Democratic Dialogue in the Americas (IDDA), a not-for-profit dedicated to improving understanding about international relations in the Western Hemisphere.
Thirty-three universities participated in the WMOAS involves 33 universities, including 11 were from Latin America, one from Canada and 21 from the U.S. Each sends a team of up to 10 students to represent a member state of the OAS. Students are all involved in credit-bearing courses, and meet with the ambassadors from the member states to the OAS. St. Lawrence students, pictured above with McConnell after completing the program, met the Guyanese Ambassador to the OAS, who is also Ambassador to the U.S. In addition, the students were hosted at the State Department by Robert Manogue '83, director of the State Department's Office of Bilateral Trade Affairs.
