Col. Timothy LaBarge '83

Col. Timothy LaBarge '83, of Tupper Lake, will become the new commander of the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing during a change-of-command ceremony at the Stratton Air National Guard Base, Scotia, on June 12.

LaBarge has served as 109th Vice Commander since 2008. Prior to that he was director of staff and deputy director of operations for headquarters, New York Air National Guard in Latham. From 2006 to 2007 he served as a staff officer in the office of the director of Total Force Integration at Air Force headquarters in Washington. From 1991 to 2006, LaBarge served in a number of positions with the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh. These included C-5A instructor pilot, squadron operations officer, and chief of the Wing Command Post. While in the active Air Force, LaBarge served as an instructor and evaluation pilot and flight commander at Reese Air Force Base in Texas.

He joined the Air Force in 1983 after graduating from St. Lawrence with a degree in biology. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and earned department honors.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asian Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal and the Combat Readiness Medal. He is a graduate of Command and General Staff College and the Air War College.
