I completed guide training in the spring of 2011 as a whitewater guide. Through the experience, I have gained competence with my backcountry, risk management, and communication skills. The Outdoor Program allows students to hone the technical skills necessary to be a competent backcountry leader and provides amazing opportunities to those who seek outdoor education as a future career. I hold two campus jobs including working for SLU Emergency Medical Services and for the Outdoor Program as the gear room manager and a guide. I also live in the Outing Club where I also have the opportunity to lead a variety of trips. After college, I plan on going back to school for backcountry medicine and working in the field of outdoor education.
