SLU Graduate Student Named Deputy Police Chief at SUNY Potsdam
POTSDAM — The State University of New York at Potsdam selected Timothy M. Ashley II as its new deputy chief of University Police.
A native of Ogdensburg, Ashley is currently a graduate student in St. Lawrence University's Educational Leadership master's degree program.
Ashley graduated from SUNY Canton in 1993 with an associate degree in criminal justice. While a student there, he served as a resident assistant and interned with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. From 1994 to 2001, Ashley worked as a corrections officer at Sing Sing, Fishkill and Riverview correctional facilities. He later attended SUNY Plattsburgh and Empire State College, earning his bachelor's degree in human and community services in 1997.
In 2001, Ashley joined SUNY Canton's University Police and served as a field training officer. In 2007, he earned a Meritorious Service Award for saving the life of a fellow officer. In 2009, Ashley joined SUNY Potsdam's University Police, becoming a lieutenant a year later.
