Research Opportunities for Undergraduates, Summer 2014.
Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY: Students accepted to the SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) program will carry out research under the supervision of an established biomedical scientist, write a research paper and have the opportunity to see their work published. June 9-August 15. Each fellow will receive a $3,000 stipend plus free housing. Please visit http://www.upstate.edu/grad/programs/summer.php for complete details. Deadline February 16, 2014.
Montana State University: The Solar Physics research group of MSU is accepting REU applications for the summer 2014. Most projects involve analysis of data from space missions such as Yohkoh, SOHO, RHESSI, Hinode, and SDO and ground-based observatories. Experience has shown that data analysis projects are suitable for most undergraduates at the sophomore or junior level. Additionally, each year there are a few opportunities in the solar-stellar connection (dynamo theory, data analysis), solar magneto-hydrodynamics, and space hardware development. June 9-August 8. Stipend, food allowance, travel and university lodging. Please visit http://solar.physics.montana.edu/reu for complete details.
MIRTHE Center: The Engineering Research Center for Mid-Infrared Technologies for Health and the Environment (MIRTHE) is accepting applications for Summer 2014. Join students at 6 MIRTHE Universities (Princeton, UMBC, Texas A&M, Johns Hopkins, CCNY and Rice) to conduct cutting-edge, hands-on research. MIRTHE is focused on developing knowledge, technologies and engineering systems based on mid-IR (3 – 30 μm) spectroscopy that provide unprecedented optical and chemical sensing capabilities for trace gases. MIRTHE advances mid-IR tunable Quantum Cascade lasers, detectors, and ultra-sensitive sensor systems and demonstrates specific applications through testbeds in environmental sensing, homeland security, and medical diagnostics.
Yale University, Center for Research on Interface Structures and Phenomena: Yale CRISP REU is accepting applications for the Summer of 2014. During the course of this eight-week summer research program, REU Fellows conduct research under the advisement of a university faculty mentor and postdoctoral fellows and graduate students within the research group. The REU experience is based on a very successful collaborative team-based model developed as one of CRISP's signature programs (MIMER). The CRISP REU program is open to highly motivated undergraduate students who have completed their junior year, although consideration is given to underclassmen demonstrating strong potential. 8-week program, stipend, food allowance, and university housing.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Summer 2014 Research Program: The Nebraska Summer Research Program is a consortium of NSF funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and other summer research opportunities programs (SROP). Research projects are described in detail by each program and mentor, but all are designed with the goal of having a completed, high-quality, presentable project by the end of the summer experience. 8-week and 10-week programs. Stipend, room, board, travel and transportation. Please visit http://www.unl.edu/summerprogram/home for complete details. The priority deadline is February 1, 2014.
