In addition to being a Psychology major, I was also a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Secretary of Psi Chi Honorary, and student representative to the Psychology Department. As a student representative, I was often asked my opinion on issues discussed in meetings and was expected to solicit information from my classmates in which to report back to the faculty. The faculty genuinely wanted to hear the students' positions on important topics! I worked with Alan Searleman and Serge Onyper on my senior research project. Psychology majors at SLU are encouraged to collaborate with their professors on advanced research projects and perhaps even co-author papers with them. I find this collegial approach to be beneficial because it guides student researchers and strengthens their results.
In the Spring of 2010 I studied abroad in Trinidad where I volunteered at the Trinidad and Tobago Autistic Society. I formulated and implemented behavior management plans and worked one-on-one with children of all ages and abilities on various cognitive and behavioral tasks. I hope to continue working with and learning about this disorder in my future studies.
