Julia Gosling ’23
Julia Gosling ’23, a former Skating Saint, was recently highlighted by NNY360 Watertown Daily Times in the article “Women’s hockey: Team Canada claims World Hockey gold over U.S. in overtime.” Gosling, #88 and a forward for the Canadian national team, recently won gold as they defeated the United States in overtime in the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Hockey gold medal game at Adirondack Bank Center.
1976 St. Lawrence University Swim Team
The class of 1976 St. Lawrence swim team was recognized by North Country Now for establishing an endowment in honor of longtime coach Scott Woodburn. The St. Lawrence University swimming and diving program shared they are honored to be the beneficiary of a generous endowment, courtesy of members of the 1976 national championship-winning team.
Total Eclipse of the Quad
St. Lawrence University’s Total Eclipse of the Quad event was recently highlighted by The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Daily Briefing. The eclipse celebration’s photos of faculty, staff, students and community were included in the chronicles piece, highlighting our special place in the universe.
7News Watertown Daily Times also included the St. Lawrence University Timelapse of the event as a feature on the web and through its televised media, along with numerous photos from the event on the Richard F. Brush ’52 University Quad. St. Lawrence University was also featured the article “Eclipse wows Canton,” further featuring our campus festivities.
Chris Wells
St. Lawrence University’s Women’s Hockey Coach Chris Wells was recently recognized by North Country Now for being named United Stated College Hockey Organization (USCHO) Coach of the Year.
Under Wells’ guidance, St. Lawrence Womens Skating Saints finished their 2023-24 season with a 28-11 overall record, finishing 18-4 in ECAC play.
Aileen O’Donoghue
Henry Priest Professor of Physics Aileen O’Donoghue was recently featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s article “Colleges Go Above and Beyond for the Solar Eclipse.” The article shared O’Donoghue’s leadership in the campus celebration, and her dedication to witnessing totality, even sharing her experience s traveling from New York to Kansas to see the 2017 eclipse in the path of totality that was unfortunately obscured by clouds.
O'Donoghue shared “I’m hoping that I won’t get clouded out twice in a row... and if I do, I’m going to Australia,.” a place where she believes she may see totality next.
St. Lawrence University Student Artists
The 2024 College Student Juried Art Exhibit was featured by North Country Now, and highlighted work by students from local colleges and universities, specifically featuring works from our St. Lawrence University students.
Many of the student works on display in the Remington exhibit were for sale. One third of the proceeds benefited the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds went to the artists.
The St. Lawrence student artists in the exhibition were Brianna Bachinski ’24, Nikki Batroff ’24, Katherine Gallipo ’24, Emily Giorgi ’25, Ileana Knight ’24, Clarissa Kurtaliaj ’24, Brian Larose ’25, Grace Nelson ’24, Hannah Porath ’24, Alejandra Altamirano Salazar ’24, and Lola Thompson ’24.
Josh Boyer ’24 and Luc Salem ’24
St. Lawrence University Skating Saints captains Josh Boyer ’24 and Luc Salem ’24 were recently highlighted by North Country Now for signing their first pro contracts with their respective clubs in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
