Winterlude Adventures

Did you know that St. Lawrence is the closest U.S. liberal arts college to a foreign capital?! Ottawa is only an hour and a half away and is home to my favorite winter event: Winterlude.  This epic five-mile skating rink draws thousands of people every year over three weekends of icy fun.  What could be better than an outing that includes poutine (a yummy Canadian snack of french fries, gravy, and cheese), fresh northern air and hours of skating with your best SLU friends? Some of the highlights from my day across the border included:

  • Making long chains of friends linked arm-in-arm, to help keep everyone standing (some of my friends are new skaters).
  • Enjoying all of the food along the Rideau Canal.  They even have awesome maple syrup sticks!
  • Experiencing all of the wintry activities; there are beautiful works of art and interactive ice sculptures- you can even make you own.

My favorite part? Recognizing SLU faces while skating along the canal. I stopped to chat and made lots of new friends!

I’ve included some pictures of the day.  I’m already looking forward to next year and more adventures in Canada!
