Six Individuals, Track Teams Are 2012 Hall of Fame Induction Class

Oct. 11: Five former athletes, a highly successful coach and two of the outstanding men's indoor and outdoor track teams in program history will make up the class of 2012 when the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame holds its annual induction luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 3 at noon.

The new inductees include football/wrestling standout Bill LaRock '70, national champion and All America swimmer Jeff Cook '78, baseball and football star Bob Glendening '84, All America swimmer Jen White Walden '89, and three-sport star Meredith Eisenhut Eberz '02 plus former ski coach Bob Axtell and the 1987 and 1988 men's indoor and outdoor track and field teams which earned three NCAA trophies.

The luncheon and following induction is open to the public. Luncheon tickets are $25 and reservations are requested. Reservations may be made by calling Cheryl Kennedy at 315-229-5418 or through email : ckennedy@stlawu.edu.

The 2012 induction will be the 34th in the history of the St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame which began in 1979 with the induction of former athlete, coach and athletic director Ron Burkman as the sole inductee in the first year. It has since grown to include 214 individuals and 16 teams.

Six Individuals, Three Teams To Be Honored Saturday

The first three St. Lawrence University men's hockey teams to appear in NCAA tournament competition and six individuals will comprise the St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame induction class of 2011 and will be honored as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities Nov. 4-6.

The Hall of Fame induction luncheon will be held Nov. 5 with the late Steve Peek '39, a baseball player, joining former Olympians Joe Pete Wilson '58 and Laurie Grover Humbert '88, field hockey and basketball star Sarah Burdsall '84, women's hockey player Andrea Blakeley '97 and 1999 NCAA Division III men's soccer Player of the Year Dan Annan, Jr., '00 as individual inductees. The 1951-52, 1954-55 and 1955-56 hockey teams will also be inducted in recognition of their NCAA tournament appearances.

The 2011 induction will be the 33rd in the history of the St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame which began in 1979 with the induction of former athlete, coach and athletic director Ron Burkman as the sole inductee in the first year. It has since grown to include 208 individuals and 14 teams.

Eight Comprise Hall of Fame Class of 2010

Seven former St. Lawrence University athletes and a retired coach will comprise the Class of 2010 for the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame when induction ceremonies are held Oct. 2-3.

The annual Hall of Fame induction will be part of a busy weekend on the St. Lawrence campus as the dedication of Hall-Leet Stadium, the Saints' refurbished field hockey and lacrosse venue, will take place on Friday following a field hockey game against Hamilton College and the dedication of the new Stratford Football Locker Room will take place Saturday morning at 9:30 prior to Hall of Fame activities which begin with a buffet luncheon at noon.

The 2010 Hall of Fame inductees include former Saint swim coach Bob Northrop, former football player and Rhodes Scholar Howard McKinley '49, basketball and tennis star Gene Simonsen '63, soccer star John Prokos '80, baseball and football standout Steve Owens '87, alpine skier and lacrosse star Suzanne Sargent Jones '87, women's lacrosse goaltender Nikki Williams '91 and track and field All America Reili Liiva Cantu '98.

1976 Football Team, 4 Individuals Join Hall of Fame

The 1976 football team, the first in St. Lawrence University history to earn an NCAA tournament berth, and four outstanding athletes will be inducted into the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame as its class of 2009 on Sept. 26, highlighted by the annual induction luncheon.

Michele Amidon, a standout in soccer and ice hockey, Erin Davis Garfield, a national champion in riding, David L. Jacobs, a skier at St. Lawrence and a leader in the ski industry following his graduation and Bea Doering Shea, a lacrosse all star will join the members of the football team as the 2009 inductees.

The induction luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 and is open to the public. Luncheon tickets are $25 and reservations are requested. Reservations may be made by calling Cheryl Kennedy at 315-229-5418 or through email : ckennedy@stlawu.edu.

A memorial service celebrating the life of 1976 football captain Josh Emery, a 1977 graduate and standout in both football and baseball, will be conducted Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Gunnison Chapel. Emery, a tight end on the 1976 team, passed away this past summer.

The 1976 football team went 8-1 in the regular season and made St. Lawrence's first NCAA tournament appearance in the fourth season of NCAA Division III tournament competition in football. The Saints drew a home game against Albright, winning 26-7 and advanced to the semifinals where they lost to eventual national runner-up Towson State in a memorable 38-36 shootout.
