Bill LaRock '70
An award winner in football and a three-time conference champion as an undefeated heavyweight wrestler, Bill LaRock also played lacrosse and was on the track and field team during his St. Lawrence athletic career.
He played both offensive guard and defensive middle guard and tackle during his three-year football career, earning all Independent College Athletic Conference honors as a middle guard in football. He had an 18 tackle game as a sophomore against the University of Rochester. He was the winner of the John L. Burger Award as the outstanding lineman on the team from 1967 through 1969. He captained the team in his senior season.
He went a perfect 40-0 in wrestling during his varsity career and won three straight ICAC heavyweight championships, taking the 1966 title with a pin in a mere 46 seconds. Featured in the January 19, 1970 issue of Sports Illustrated as part of its Faces in the Crowd feature, he was also captain of the wrestling team.
LaRock went on to become a teacher and coach following his graduation from St. Lawrence and has had an outstanding career as a coach at Penn Yan.
