George Hughes '80
The most prolific scorer and one of the outstanding players in St. Lawrence basketball history, George Hughes holds the SLU record for career points and scoring average and was a two-time All America in 1979 and 1980.
A four-year all conference, All ECAC and All New York State selection, George was the ECAC Player of the Year in 1980 and was twice the ICAC Player of the Year. He earned all tourney honors in all nine tournaments he played during his career and was MVP in the Carlton, Allegheny and Potsdam tournaments. He scored 2321 career points, averaging 23.2 points per game, and also set career records for field goal percentage, field goals scored, free throws scored and season records for free throw percentage, points and field goals.
He set a gymnasium scoring record with 49 points against Division I Iona College, scoring them against future NBA center Jeff Ruland.
