An outstanding two-sport athlete, Gail Hearn captained the 1981 women's lacrosse team which was the first St. Lawrence team to win the Eastern Regionals and go on to play in the AIAW Nationals.

The leading scorer on that championship team, Hearn finished her career with 130 goals and 73 assists for 203 total points. She had a seven goal game as a junior against Syracuse.

She was named to the East Regional All Star team in 1981 and invited to play on the US National Team. She was also named St. Lawrence Senior Athlete of the Year for 1981. She also starred on the Saint ice hockey team as one its top players during her four year career.
