Laurie Peterssen McManus '81
As a freshman, Laurie Peterssen McManus placed 13th as a team out of 78 teams in the 1978 AIAW National Swim Championships and became the first St. Lawrence woman to win a national individual championship in a national record time when she won the 100 free style.
Laurie won all five events in the state meet and was on two winning relay teams as a senior, earning the award as outstanding swimmer of the meet. A captain of the swim team as both a junior and a senior, she held five individual St. Lawrence records and shared a relay record at the time of her induction.
She was All America in each of her four years and earned All America honors 16 times as an individual and on four relay teams.
She maintained her interest in swimming as coach for the Pack Swim Club in Pittsford, NY following graduation.
