Jesse F. Sammis III '60
An oustandint two-sport athlete at St. Lawrence, Sam Sammis was a two-time MVP in tennis and played on two NCAA hockey tourney teams.
Sam holds the best won-lost tennis record in SLU history (34-2). In his senior year, he scored the winning goal in a playoff game against Boston College with 17 seconds left to put SLU into the NCAA tournament.
He continued his tennis and hockey exploits following graduation and has been a member of the U.S. Stevens Cup Tennis Team, U.S. Army European Tennis champion, a member of the U.S. Olympic Fronton Team, three time National Platform Tennis doubles champ, two time National Court Tennis doubles champ and has played in the World Old Timers’ Hockey Championship and run in both the Boston and New York City Marathons.
