Jan. 29: Senior linebacker Joe Napolitano was recently honored as St. Lawrence University's National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete for 2012 at a banquet hosted on Sunday, January 27 at the Turning Stone Casino and Resort in Verona, NY.

"I'm extremely proud of all that Joe has accomplished during his time in a St. Lawrence uniform," said head football coach Mark Raymond. "He was a defensive playmaker who also has made tremendous accomplishments off the field as well."

Napolitano was the top performer on the Saints' defense last fall with a team-best 86 total tackles. The Tewksbury, MA native added 4.5 tackles for a loss, an interception and a forced fumble while finishing fifth in the conference in tackles. Napolitano earned Liberty League All-Conference status for his play, and is a 2011 All-Academic team member as well.

The NFF Scholar-Athlete awards are considered the best all-around scholar athlete on their team in their final year of eligibility. These honorees must have a GPA of at least 3.2, have outstanding football ability and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
