2011-12: Matt Weninger was the go-to guy for the Saints in goal as a sophomore as he started 32 of 36 games and 21 of 22 ECAC league contests. He had a 3.09 goals against average and a .896 save percentage overall with a 13-16-3 record. He had a 2.73 goals against average, .911 save percentage and 10-10-1 record in league play. He posted a 18-save shutout of RPI in a 2-0 win and made 33 saves in a 1-0 overtime win at Quinnipiac. He had a season high 46 saves in a 4-3 loss at Clarkson and had over 30 saves in 10 games.He was ECAC Goaltender of the Week for the Week of Feb. 15 after wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac.
2010-11: Matt Weninger had an outstanding rookie season for the Saints, compiling a 2.65 goals against average with a .913 save percentage. He made 37 saves in his first collegiate appearance, a 1-1 tie at Minnesota State. He earned his first win with 29 saves in a 3-0 win over Cornell at Appleton Arena and established a career high for saves with 48 in a 2-1 win at Princeton which clinched a Saint victory in the opening round of the playoffs. He had 32 saves in a 2-1 win at then second-ranked New Hampshire and recorded his second shutout of the season with a 6-0 win at Michigan Tech. The Saints scored two goals or less in 18 of his 28 starts. He was ECAC Goaltender of the Week twice and ECAC Rookie of the Week twice.
The goaltender for the first place SJHL North Division Flin Flon Bombers, Matt Weninger was the Bombers' MVP and a three star winner in 2009-10. He was the Kindersley Kippers 2007-08 Rookie of the Year and played in the SJHL All Star game. He compiled a 29-14-2 record last season with a 2.39 goals against average and a .925 save percentage. The son of Mark and Wendy Weninger, Matt also played baseball in high school. His cousins David and Todd both tended goal for Michigan Tech University and David played professionally for the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins in the AHL.
