Strong Field Event Performances Highlight Ottawa Meet

Jan. 12: St. Lawrence University's men's track and field team had a big day in the field events at the 2013 Ottawa Super Saturday event to start the 2013 portion of the indoor season.
Sophomore Shawn Lillie led a strong showing in the throws for the Saints with a win in the weight, while the Saints also piled up top ten finishes in the shot put, and long, high and triple jumps.
Lillie threw 12.92 meters to win the weight and was sixth in the shot with a 12.09 meter throw. Scott Kassan was second in the weight with a 11.50 meter throw and fifth in the shot at 12.54 meters while Bryce DeBoer was third in the weight and eighth in the shot.
Mike Scott was second in the high jump at 1.91 meters with Brian Kane finishing fourth at 1.86 meters and Josh Martel adding a ninth place finish. Vince Maniscalco was second in the long jump at 6.22 meters and fourth in the triple jump at 11.90 meters while Kane was third in the long jump at 6.06 meters with Alimamy Kabia finishing fourth and Chris Payton fifth.
On the track, Jake Frederick had the top Saint finish with a third in the 60 hurdles, setting the SLU record at 8.51 seconds. Nick Crawford was sixth in the 60 hurdles and the Saint 4x400 relay finished third in 3:31.75. Adam Bankert was 11th in the 600 at 1:28.25, Jon Eng 11th in the 1000, Omaru Kabia 10th in the 60 and Scott Smolensky seventh in the 3000 for other top Saint finishes in running events.
SLU will host their indoor invitational on Jan. 19.
