Softball Program
The 2013 season marks the beginning of a new era for St. Lawrence University's softball team as the Saints welcome new Head Coach Elisa Van Kirk. The program has high hopes of building off last year's third place finish and 20-13 season, and capturing its first-ever Liberty League championship title.
Van Kirk takes the reins from Fran Grembowicz, who coached the squad since its inception in the fall of 1999 before stepping down in 2012. Under the direction of Coach Grembowicz, the Saints captured two New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association championships and an UCAA conference championship. She also coached three regional All-Americans, including Meredith Eisenhut, a two-time regional All-American and two-time Conference player of the year, as well as numerous all-conference honorees.
Academically, the Saints program has graduated several Phi Beta Kappa inductees, while numerous players have been awarded All-Conference academic honors. Two Saints, Eisenhut and Erin Lloyd, were chosen by the University as Senior Scholar-Athletes for their successes both on the field and in the classroom. Numerous Saints have earned National All-Academic honors.
The Saints kick their season off with a fall ball program that features 16 practices and a day of competition. In February, the squad begins preparations for its spring trip to Florida with training in Leithead Field House.
St. Lawrence plays 12 games on its southern trip and continues with a strong regional schedule upon its return north. The Saints take on perennial state power St. John Fisher, along with Liberty League foes Rensselaer, Rochester, RIT, Skidmore and Union.
