Saint Women Win, Men Fall in Season Opening Dual Meet

Oct. 26: St. Lawrence University's women's swim team won the 200 medley relay to start the meet and finished the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200 free relay to edge Skidmore College 116-114 in the season-opening dual meet for both teams at the Augsbury Pool on Friday. Skidmore gained a split for the day as the Thoroughbred men won 143-60.
Sophomore Samantha Moffitt had a big day for the Saints, winning the 200 individual medley, 100 fly and swimming the fly on the 200 medley relay. She won by almost 11 seconds with a 2:17.69 time in the 200 IM, took the 100 fly in 1:03.00 with first year Carly Berizzi finishing second and joined Casey Abribat, Elizabeth Canne and Alanna Blackburn on the winning 200 medley relay team which won in 1:55.94
Abribat, the Saint captain, added a win in the 100 back in 1:03.10 and was on the 200 free relay team with Nicole Leinder, Jane Moreau and Stacy Czaja which won in 1:45.85. Zinnia Smith had the other event win for the Saint women with a first in the 100 breaststroke, leading a one-two-three Saint finish with earned 16 points with Canne finishing second and Czaja third.
Blackburn was second in 25.63 in the 50 free and 2nd in 57.98 in the 100 free while Moreau was third in both events. Olivia Rettstatt was second in both the 1000 free (11:32.87) and 500 free (5:40.13 while Canne was third in the 200 free and Molly Sneden was third in the 100 back.
For the Saint men, Matt Bauer won the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.13 and the Saint men scored first in the 200 free relay with a team of Alex Root, Lane Heed, Bauer and Jason Dutra swimming 1:37.94.
Tad Deatley was second in the 1000 free in 11:02.45 and third in the 100 fly while Root was third in both the 1000 and 500 free. Bauer added a third in the 200 IM while Grant Reeder was second in both the 200 and 100 free and Dutra was second in the 100 back.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, hosting Nazareth at 1 p.m.
