Saints Host Annual Awards Banquet

Katie Prue, Aisha O'Connor and Marisa Turner earned team awards for their play this fall.

Dec. 6: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team held its end of the season gathering on Sunday, December 2. The night consisted of a summary of the season's highlights, including the "Power of Pink" matches, captain Katie Prue surpassing the 1000-dig mark and setters Anna Kassab and Jenna Street each surpassing the 1000-assist mark for their careers.

Rebecca Doser and Prue were also recognized for their All-Tournament team honors they had achieved during the season and rookie Lexi Brown was congratulated on earning second team All-Conference status from the Liberty League.

Academically, Kassab, Prue and Street were mentioned as having the necessary cumulative grade point average to earn them all-academic honors for the conference as well. All three were named to the Dean's List last semester.

Head coach Shelly Roiger presented the team's awards, with rookie Marisa Turner named Most Improved Player while Prue and Aisha O'Connor were voted the Teammates of the Year by their peers.

Following the awards, the Saints exchanged gifts for their annual "Secret Santa" before watching the season's highlight movie, which was made by assistant coach Melissa Anderson.

The Saints finished 11-24 for the season and with a young roster of six first-years, two sophomores and two juniors, a greatly improved season is expected for next fall. Coach Roiger plans to return to the playoff picture in 2013 where the Liberty League playoff champion will receive the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time.
