Bombers Edge Saints, 65-64
Nov. 30: Devin Shea's pair of free throws with 3.6 seconds left in regulation proved to be enough as the Ithaca women's basketball team edged St. Lawrence University, 65-64, in Friday's non-conference match-up in Canton, NY. St. Lawrence first-year student Amanda Roberts put up a floater at the buzzer that bounced around the rim but didn't fall through.
"I was really proud of the effort we gave and the energy we had on the floor tonight," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "Our effort translated to us competing with one of the best teams in the region. I'm disappointed with the final outcome, but I'm excited for the potential of this team from here on out."
Ithaca remains unbeaten with a 4-0 record and was led by junior Kathryn Campbell's game-high 22 points. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence falls to 1-3 on the season despite having a 64-57 lead with 2:13 remaining in the game.
The Bombers, who owned a 44-38 advantage in rebounds including 17 on the offensive end, rewrote the seven point deficit with back-to-back three-pointers by Campbell and Shea's free throws down the stretch for the 65-64 road victory.
Three Saints scored in double figures, including junior Kelly Legg (16 pts, 7 reb.), sophomore Ali Cady (14 pts, 2 steals) and junior co-captain Cassie St. Hilaire (11 pts, 5 rebs.).
The Saints will host Elmira College tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm in the Burkman Gymnasium.
