Saints Fall to Thoroughbreds, 66-64

College took over the lead in the race to the top of the Liberty League with a
46-44 win over St. Lawrence University, Tuesday night at the Williamson Sports
Center. The Thoroughbreds are 10-3 in
the conference and 12-10 overall. The Saints drop to 9-3 and 15-6.
St. Lawrence held a small lead for the majority of the first half, taking a 27-21 advantage in the locker room. The Thoroughbreds, however, came out of the intermission with a 17-2 run over an 11:00 minute span to take their largest lead of the game, 38-29, with 9:01 left.
The Saints slowly chipped away at the deficit, coming back to within one point when Legg made the front end of a one and one, 45-44, with :45 seconds left. After a miss on the second attempt, Skidmore came up with the defensive rebound but proceeded to turn the ball over, giving St. Lawrence a chance to regain the lead with :29 seconds remaining.
St. Lawrence had three shot attempts in the final :11 seconds, but none would fall. Skidmore made the second of two free throws with :04 seconds left to bring the score to its final 46-44.
Sophomore Kara McDuffee and junior Kelly Legg led the Saints with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and combined for 16 rebounds.
The Saints committed 25 turnovers compared to the Thoroughbreds' 17 in the game, and finished shooting 31.9% from the floor.
St. Lawrence will host Union and RPI in Liberty League games this weekend with major league playoff positioning implications.
