Saints Varsity 8+ Finishes Third at Head of the Genesee

Oct. 16: The St. Lawrence University women's crew team's varsity 8+ finished in third place overall at the Head of the Genesee this weekend in Rochester, NY.
The Saints finished in a time of 18:29.07, despite having to work their way through the field from the back of the draw. St. Lawrence locked up third position behind William Smith and Hamilton College and was ahead of fourth-place Ithaca by over 30 seconds.
The varsity 8+ was stroked by Maddy Fones, while Kelly Greenwood was coxswain. Other rowers include Leah Ruggiero, Kelly Bartlett, Alissa McCaffrey, Emily Hutchinson, Maggie Fellows, Sally Dankner and Jesse Burdett.
The novice 8+ suffered a disqualification after being sent onto the race course in the warmup by a race official. Still, they rowed an effective race, passing three crews over the course. The lineup consisted of Katie Legnard, Gabby Schreffler, Grace Conrad, Karen Blakelock, Ann West, Cadence Trapini, Hannah Durant, Jen Longwell and coxswain Yuki McQueeney.
St. Lawrence will compete again this Sunday at the 2012 Head of the Charles Regatta.
