Dr. Susan Willson Research News

Dr. Willson is beginning a new study this fall examining the effectiveness of a novel cat collar in decreasing adult bird deaths.  The study examines the Birdsbesafe® cat collar covers (www.birdsbesafe.com).  Dr. Willson has used the collar cover for her own professional killer, her cat “the Gorilla,” after she became exasperated at the number of birds her cat was bringing home.  As a bird biologist, she was excited at the effectiveness of the collar, and is now starting a large-scale study involving 55 local cats whose owners classify them as bird killers.  She plans to quantify the effectiveness of the collar, and hopes the study may provide support for the more widespread distribution and availability of the collars in the future.  More information can be found here
