2nd Annual Kick It For A Cause Zumbathon

After the success of the Kick It for Krissy Zumbathon® in 2012, organized by a SLU Community Based Learning student Madison Wilcox '14, The Center for Civic Engagement hosted the second annual "Kick It For A Cause" event on Saturday, April 13th. This year Claire, a 2 year old with Cystic Fibrosis from Norwood, was honored and $6,550 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Kick It For Claire was planned and organized by the Community Mentor staff of the CCE, and Madison has joined the staff this year! Madison, along with Anna Manning '15, served as CCE Event Coordinators and were the liaisons for the Kick It event. There was lots of Zumba®, a silent auction and raffle, a 50/50 raffle and lots of groups on campus who volunteered with kids activities. Along with the CCE, other sponsors included the SLU Thelomathesian Society, Student Life, Cornerstone Services, the Bears Den and MANY local businesses and residents who donated raffle/auction items. Also to be thanked is SLU Facilities, Dining Services, Athletics and Information Technology.

The CCE would like to thank all the volunteers and participants for coming out and making this event a huge success. Groups who volunteered included CCE Community Mentors, SLU Democrats, Volleyball and Swim Teams, Circle K, Omicron Delta Kappa, Male Athletes Against Sexual Violence, Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Delta Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Delta Sigma, SLU Men's Hockey Team, SUNY Potsdam Women's Hockey Team and SUNY Potsdam Arethusa.

Stay tuned for next year’s cause!
