My name is Megan Powers and I am a senior from Syracuse, New York. I am majoring in both environmental studies and economics and I spent the spring of 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Studying abroad has played a very important role in my experience at St. Lawrence, and has completely broadened my educational experience. Copenhagen was the perfect city to spend a semester studying the relationship between environmental policy and economics. While I have learned a lot during my time in Canton, the opportunity to study the same topics from a different perspective was incredibly valuable.

During my semester abroad I lived with a host family outside of Copenhagen. Through this experience I gained many insights into Danish culture that I could not have gained any other way. I became very close with my host family and through them I was able to experience Danish family life first hand. I experienced everything from traditional Danish food to typical Danish Birthday and anniversary celebrations.

In Copenhagen I participated in the Sustainability in Europe program at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. Through this program I was able to study foreign environmental policies and practices in greater depth than I could have on campus. The program even included a study tour to London and other parts of the United Kingdom where we had the chance to compare what we had learned in Denmark to another European country.
