Will Congdon
Patti McGill Peterson Center for International and Intercultural Studies
My name is Will Congdon and I am a Senior from Brooklyn, NY. I am a Math major and a member of the St. Lawrence University's Men's Soccer Team. During the spring of 2012 I spent a semester studying in London, England. I applied to the program because I wanted to experience life in another major cosmopolitan and metropolitan city.
There were many ways in which the program helped me become immersed in the English culture. I learned a ton from the host family I stayed with as well as from my coworkers at the internship I worked. Commuting every day to school/work and taking field trips in London for classes caused me to fully learn the Tube system which inspired me to explore a variety of diverse neighborhoods. Also I was really pleased by the fact that all four of the courses I took utilized the many resources available in London and as a result I was able to experience things I never would have been able to.
Being a soccer fan made England, the birth place of soccer or futbol, a perfect place to study for me as I was able to watch some of the best teams in the world play. However, London truly has something for everybody. From stuffing my face at weekend food markets, to riding bikes around Hyde Park, to going to the Tate Modern or any other of the multitude of museums, I was constantly pleased by the limitless amount of activities (and that's coming from someone who has lived in NYC his whole life).
