FYS - Global Francophone Cultures Meet the Director
Greetings! We can't
wait to welcome you to St. Lawrence University in August! My name is Margaret Bass, and I'm directing the
Global Francophone Cultures FYS. I've
designed a great course called "The Ethnographic Eye (I)." All I need to make the semester complete is a
group of enthusiastic first year students who are ready for an adventure!
I'm so excited about this trip. Although I've traveled the world, I still love
what I learn about people and cultures other than my own. There's also nothing better than traveling, teaching
and learning with students. It's
enriching and great fun!
You don't need to speak French already to participate in
this semester abroad. We will begin the
program with an intensive introduction to French in Quebec and I'll teach the
course in English. The course should
appeal to students with different interests.
All you need is a keen eye and a desire to observe people, places and
events. You'll choose your own research
topic (mine is coffee), and we'll take field trips to cities, museums,
restaurants and schools--wherever our research leads us.
I hope you'll join me next spring. We'll learn so much from the experience and
from each other. We'll also have a
wonderful time together.
If you have questions about the course, please email or call
me. My email address is
firstname.lastname@example.org, and my office telephone number is 315-229-5374. I'm always happy to answer questions about
Global Francophone Cultures.
Thanks for your attention!
Have a great summer vacation!
