The course includes: semester-long common readings, seminar discussions, a rural, agricultural home stay (1 week), an urban home stay (3 weeks), a field study in Tanzania (1 week), a field study in the Amboseli region on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, AND an independent field study (4 weeks), as well as several student writing assignments and other projects, culminating in a final essay.
