This course analyses how the colonial history has shaped the state of modern Kenya by examining the most important themes in the history of Kenya from the colonial period to the present. The course covers the following topics: background to the colonial period; the scramble and partitioning of Africa; impact of colonialism; the rise of nationalism; the coming of independence; and developments in contemporary Kenya.
