He all, what’s the good news and have you eaten your rice today? I sure have.
My name is Melissa and I’m a senior majoring in Environmental Studies and Government. My sophomore year I spent the fall studying in Kenya and my junior spring I spent sweltering in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
I was born afflicted with a persistent case of the travel bug and I can’t imagine my college experience without the vastly different but equally enriching experiences abroad in Africa and Asia.
As a student passionate about the environment some of my favorite memories are from interning with Watamu Turtle Watch while abroad in Kenya where I got the opportunity to study and participate in marine conservation. As a person passionate about travel my other favorite memories are from the new family and friends that I learned so much from during home stays in Kenya and living in an international dorm in Thailand. I miss the markets, food, and the culture so much, and love cooking Chapatti and Thai Curry for anyone brave enough to try my cooking.
Now that I’m a senior, and stuck inside the country for a while, I’m looking forward to incorporating my experiences abroad into my final year at St. Lawrence, especially my senior thesis, and to further pursuits working and traveling after graduation.
