In Memory: Dr. David H. Vrooman, Jr.
From William L. Fox, President of St. Lawrence University:
With sadness I report the death on Tuesday, January 8, of Associate Professor Emeritus of Economics David Vrooman.
A faculty member for 34 years, Dave retired from St. Lawrence in 1999. He earned degrees from Cornell University, Northwestern University and the State University of New York at Albany, from which he received his Ph.D. in 1976. Simply, Dave loved teaching and advising students and they knew, and loved, his dedication to them. He taught microeconomics and financial economics, and also served as the advisor to the Investment Club. In 1978-79, he participated in the Economic Policy Fellowship Program at the Brookings Institute in Washington, DC. He published in numerous professional journals, including the American Economist, the American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Land Economics and the National Tax Journal. Devoted to his community, he offered guest lectures at North Country regional economics and civic organizations. His colleagues in the Economics department relied on Dave for his wise, steady service to the discipline, to the department, and to the University. They recall too his passion for jazz and classical music, sailing, stargazing, tennis, apple-growing, and trees.
A US Army veteran, David was honorably discharged as a Captain.
Dave Vrooman was the beloved husband of Sally Eaton Vrooman and father of Peter, Eric and Bruce Vrooman, and father-in-law to Jill Locke and Johnette Stubbs. He had four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Canton, NY at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013. His family asks that for those who wish to express their condolences, a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care Services of St. Lawrence Valley would be gratefully received.
