Writers Series presents David Means
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23 • 8:00 P.M.
SYKES COMMON ROOM
The author of four collections of fiction, David Means has published stories in The New Yorker, Esquire, Harper’s and The Paris Review. Two of those were included in annual Best American Short Story collections. James Wood, in The London Review of Books, notes that “Means’ language offers an exquisitely precise and sensuous register of an often crazy American reality. You can hear the influence of Flannery O’Connor in the scintillating shiver of the beautiful imagery, in the lack of sentimentality, in the interest in grotesque violence, and gothic tricksterism.” A member of the English faculty at Vassar College, he teaches creative writing, modern and contemporary literature, and American culture.
