by Victor Colby (carved and fitted wood, SLU 68.32)

This exhibition includes works from St. Lawrence University's permanent collection and "reworks" by students in Melissa Schulenberg's art and art history spring 2012 senior-year experience (SYE) class.  Each student selected from two to six art objects from the collection and then created new works based on those selections.  In some cases, students used the visual and formal aspects of a work of art to create a new piece.  In other cases, a more conceptual approach was utilized.  Students wrote individual artist's statements and learned how to mat and frame artworks using museum standards.  The class as a whole designed the installation.  The project was intended to give students hands-on experience in organizing an exhibition from start to finish.
