Milkweed Pods by Heron Hetzler, 2016

This exhibition represents the capstone project of graduating seniors from the art & art history department.  It embodies their diverse interests and experiences, their dreams and aspirations, as well as their fears and anxieties.  Artmaking has become a way to find a comfort zone during the students’ time at St. Lawrence, allowing them to express and explore ideas in the company of others, while at the same time presenting an opportunity to confront and understand discomforts and difficulties.

Students were able to work in any media for the exhibition, including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media.  Additionally, as part of the seminar, students were taught the practical aspects of being an artist, such as exhibition design and planning, installation, publicity, and documentation.
