Springboard includes works from St. Lawrence University's permanent collection and new work by students in Melissa Schulenberg's art and art history spring 2017 senior seminar. Each student selected art objects from the collection, using them as “springboards” to create their own new work. In some cases, students used the visual and formal aspects of an artwork to create a new piece, while others took a more conceptual approach. Students wrote individual artist's statements, learned how to mat and frame artworks, and designed and installed the exhibition for this one-night-only extravaganza.

The project is intended to inspire and motivate the students while giving them hands-on experience in organizing an exhibition from start to finish, in preparation for their second, more formal capstone exhibition in April 2017. The exhibition features the work of Shelby Burkhardt, Rachael Faust, Coral Garcia, Nathalie Nostrand, Samantha Ormsby, and Kiowere Rourke.
