Dr. Graham Baird to Deliver Seminar

Dr. Graham Baird was raised in central New York and graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1994.  For his undergraduate degree, Baird attended St. Lawrence University where he was a three-sport athlete (cross-country running, Nordic skiing, and track) and graduated in 1998 cum laude receiving a Geology B.S. degree with Honors.  Following St. Lawrence University, he obtained graduate degrees from Binghamton University (2001, M.A. in Geology) and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (2006, Ph.D. in Geology).  Baird’s Ph.D. research focused on the strain and geometry of meso-scale ductile shear zones.  Since 2007, Baird has been faculty at the University of Northern Colorado and currently is an Associate Professor of Geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.  There, instructional duties include all undergraduate and graduate “hardrock” geology courses:  mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, structural geology, geologic field techniques, ore geology; plus introductory level courses, a scientific writing course, and various special topics courses.  His on-going research includes studies of the structural geology and tectonics of the Adirondacks, the Caledonides of northern Sweden, and of the northern Colorado Front Range.
