Eve Stoddard

Eve Stoddard received her BA from Mount Holyoke College and her Ph.D. from UCLA, both in English. Her areas of interest are cultural and postcolonial studies, comparative race and ethnicity, tourism, and the history of slavery in the British empire. Stoddard teaches Caribbean and Irish literature, postcolonial theory, and both introductory and senior level courses on race and ethnicity. She also teaches a seminar for students who have studied abroad called The Ethics of Global Citizenship and will be teaching a course on Global Tourism.

Dr. Stoddard does considerable speaking, writing, and consulting on faculty and curriculum development related to internationalization, global and intercultural studies in higher education in the U.S. She has co-edited a volume of essays called Global Multiculturalism: Comparative Perspectives on Race, Ethnicity, and Nation and co-authored a monograph for the Association of American Colleges and Universities called Globalizing Knowledge: Connecting International and Intercultural Studies. Stoddard serves on the Board of the Global Studies Association of America (GSA).

Currently she is working on colonial and postcolonial connections between Ireland and the Caribbean, looking at the ways former British great houses are viewed and reappropriated in different postcolonial settings. This research brings together her interests in the 18th century British empire with contemporary cultural studies of tourism. Dr. Stoddard is the chair of the Global Studies department. Her office is Rm. 101, 82 Park Street and her phone is 315 229-5992.
